“16 Events, 1 Vision: Empowering Youth Through Street Handball”

Street Handball Zambia is thrilled to share 16 inspiring events from Zambia since our Street Handball Festival and Soren’s visit in October last year!

We’re bursting with pride over the incredible work being done by Chikondi Sports Youth Arise Foundation (CSYAF), the Zikomo Project, and Street Handball Zambia. Together, they’re using the power of sport—especially Street Handball—to drive positive change in communities.

Event 16 – April 17 – Zikomo Project Kids Street Handball Session at Kibbutz Academy with visit of Seiji.

Happening now, Zikomo Project Kids Street Handball Session at Kibbutz Academy in Lusaka. 😊
Schools in Zambia are on holiday but we had about 5 teams from 2 nearby compounds besides KIBBUTZU academy ✨✨✨the smiles on everyone’s faces were beautiful ✨✨✨
It was also with participation of Seiji founder of Zikomo Project visited Lusaka again.

Event 15 – April 12 – Zikomo Project Kids Street Handball Workshop at Kibbutz Academy.

Empowering Children Through Sport and Education!

Today, Chikondi Sports Youth Arise Foundation-CSYAF successfully hosted a Zikomo Project Kids Street Handball Workshop at Kibbutz Academy, engaging 50 children and young people in an inspiring and educational experience.

During the workshop, participants learned about:

Understanding and respecting body boundaries

The difference between good and bad secrets. The importance of speaking up and telling a trusted adult about any bad secrets to help prevent abuse. These vital lessons were followed by an energetic and fun-filled Street Handball session, where children put teamwork, communication, fair play, and sportsmanship into practice.

At CSYAF, we believe that sport is not only a tool for physical development but also a powerful platform to educate and protect. Today was a step forward in building confident, informed, and empowered young individuals.

Event 14 – April 5 – Street Handball Takes Off in Chipata!

Following the success of last month’s P.E. Teachers Street Handball Practitioners Training Workshop, teachers in Chipata, Eastern Province, have hit the ground running!
Thanks to their dedication, children aged 4 to 14 have already started practicing Street Handball as part of their P.E. lessons. This week alone, over 100 enthusiastic learners participated in a Zikomo Project Street Handball training session at Groenward Christian Academy.
It’s inspiring to see the passion and energy as the game continues to grow in schools and communities.

Event 13 – March 27 – Zikomo Project’s First Kids Street Handball Pop-Up in 2025 at Datumysha Primary School a Huge Success!

Yesterday, the Zikomoプロジェクト Project hosted its first Kids Street Handball Community Pop-Up at Datumysha Primary School, and it was an incredible day! 150 children, aged 5 to 14, came together to play, learn, and experience the joy of street handball in a fun and supportive environment.
The energy, smiles, and teamwork on display were truly inspiring! This event is just the beginning of our mission to bring sports opportunities to more children and young people in our community.

Event 12 – March 21 – Once again various private schools P.E. teachers become certified Street Handball practitioners

Chikondi Sports Youth Arise Foundation (CSYAF) has successfully concluded the Zikomo Project P.E. Teachers Street Handball Practitioners Training, which took place from March 21st to 22nd, 2025. This initiative trained P.E. teachers from various private schools to become certified Street Handball practitioners, equipping them with the skills to introduce and grow the sport within their schools and communities.
Speaking at the closing of the training, CSYAF CEO Mr. Joseph Daka emphasized the importance of expanding Street Handball in Chipata. He highlighted the sport’s potential to keep children and young people engaged in positive activities, fostering inclusiveness, teamwork, and fair play among learners.
Visiting guest Mr. Stig Axelsen commended the Zikomo Project and CSYAF for its dedication to children sports development. He described Street Handball as an exciting and accessible game that can be played anywhere, encouraging teachers to actively implement the program and inspire more children to engage in sports from an early age.

Event 11 – March 19 – Kids Street Handball Workshop – A Day of Fun, Learning, and Growth, Zambia!

On March 19, 2025, we successfully held our second Zikomo Kids Street Handball Workshop under the Zikomo Project at The Way Forward School in Lusaka! This exciting event brought together 200 enthusiastic children, aged 4 to 14 years, for an unforgettable day of sports, learning, and fun.
Apart from street handball, the children also participated in fun movement games and athletic events, ensuring they had a well-rounded experience that promoted physical activity, fair play, teamwork, and enjoyment.
We were honored to have Mr. Stig Axelsen, who is currently in Zambia to witness and support the impactful work being carried out by the Chikondi Sports Youth Arise Foundation (CSYAF). His presence was a great source of motivation for both the children and organizers as he actively took part in the day’s activities.
Before the event, Mr. Stig Axelsen and Mr. Joseph Daka, the CEO of Chikondi Sports Youth Arise Foundation (CSYAF), paid a courtesy visit to Col. N. Chime, the director of Kibbutz Academy, where they discussed the ongoing and future development of sports initiatives. To top it off, Mr. Stig enthusiastically joined a street handball game against kids and teachers, demonstrating his support and passion for the sport!
As part of his visit, Mr. Stig Axelsen will also participate in several other activities before heading back to Norway, including an important visit to the school under construction in Chipata, which is being supported by the Zikomo Project.

Event 10 – March 15 – Street Handball Kicks Off in Lilanda Zone, Zambia!

Following last month’s Street Handball P.E. Teachers & Practitioners Training under the Zikomo Project, the exciting game of Street Handball has officially begun in Lilanda Zone!
Kibbutz Academy is leading the way, with 85 children actively participating in weekly Street Handball training sessions during P.E.
This is just the beginning! Stay tuned as we bring you updates on Street Handball activities in other schools.

Event 9 – February 22, Street Handball practitioners’ training for Physical Education teachers.

P.E Teachers Trained as Street Handball Practitioners by the CSYAF under Zikomo Project.
A two-day Zikomo Project Street Handball practitioners’ training for Physical Education (P.E) teachers successfully concluded yesterday, 22nd February 2025. The training, aimed at equipping teachers with skills to develop and promote the sport in schools, attracted participants from various private schools in Lusaka.
The workshop was officially opened on Friday by Kibbutz Academy Director, Conale Chime. In his opening remarks, Conale Chime emphasized the crucial role teachers play in talent identification and sports development at the grassroots level. He encouraged them to implement the knowledge gained from the training, stating that they are key stakeholders in shaping young athletes.
The certification ceremony was graced by the National Sports Council of Zambia – NSCZ Sports Development Officer, Madam Phoebe Silabo. While officiating, she congratulated the trained teachers and urged them to put their newfound skills into practice. She highlighted the Council’s commitment to mass participation at the grassroots level, noting that this is where real sporting talent is discovered.
“My office, working together with CSYAF under the Zikomo Project, will conduct follow-ups to assess how you are implementing what you have learned,” she stated.
Madam Silabo also expressed her delight at the increased participation of female teachers in the training and encouraged male teachers to support their female colleagues. She emphasized that greater female participation in sports would not only enhance gender equality in the field but also in leadership positions.
The training marked a significant step in promoting Street Handball in schools and ensuring wider participation in sports among young learners in Lusaka.

Event 8 – Ferbruary 17, First Kids Street Handball Workshop under Zikomo Project.

We are thrilled to kick off our 2025 Kids Street Handball Project with the first Kids Street Handball Workshop under the Zikomo Project! 🏐✨
Held last Friday at Enlight Academy in Lusaka West, the workshop brought together 100 energetic kids aged 4 to 14 years, introducing them to the exciting world of street handball while promoting Fair Play, teamwork, discipline, and fun!

Event 5-6-7 – February 8 – Street Handball Zambia and Nathan hosted 3 days Street Handball Practice.

Another successful street handball practice in chipata overspill. 40 children came through today.
29 under 14s boys and girls.
11 under 9s boys and girls.
Tomorrow we are playing again, we will have 6 teams, 6 coaches and two referees. ☺️✌️
 
Event 6
A good number of children came through yesterday for street handball practice and they all come from the same community (chipata overspill).
Chipata overspill is becoming the house hold of street handball in Lusaka.
Today, Saturday 8th of February , Coach Nathan Mwitwa Shiluwe together with children will be having another street practice at 10:00.
Venue: north gate, behind north gate police.
 
Event 5
Street handball is growing in chipata overspill, about 30 children meet weekly for street activities and we have full support from the parents 🥳🥳🤾🏼‍♂️.

Event 4 – February 7, Exciting Kickoff for the 2025 Kids & Education Sport Program!

We had a fantastic stakeholders meeting at Kibbutz Academy in Lusaka as we gear up for another impactful year of the Kids Street Handball activities under the Zikomo Project!
The session was filled with inspiring discussions on how to create more opportunities for children to engage in sports, develop teamwork, and build confidence through street handball. Together, we are committed to providing safe and fun spaces where kids can learn, play, and grow.

Event 3 – December 13, Kids Street Handball community pop-up at Mutambe Ground in Mandevu Compound!

This afternoon, we proudly hosted our 10th Zikomo Kids Street Handball community pop-up at Mutambe Ground in Mandevu Compound!

It was an amazing event, bringing together 22 energetic and enthusiastic children—both girls and boys—who participated with great spirit and joy.

We are so grateful for the continued support and involvement of our community, and we look forward to many more pop-ups in the future! Together, we’re making a difference and empowering the next generation through sports. 

Event 2 – November 15 – Street Handball Zambia introduced Street Handball for Harice Primary School.

Harice primary school has joined the camp ,we introduced street handball today . The school is located in 6 miles- Lusaka .

Event 1 – November 9, 2024 Kids street handball community pop-up with CSYAF

 
What an amazing afternoon at the Zikomo Project Kids Street Handball community pop-up!
We had a blast with fun and movement games, catchy songs, and, of course, some exciting Street Handball action! 🤾‍♀️🤾💥 30 Children aged 2 to 12 years joined us at Mutambe Ground, and the energy was contagious! 🌟
We are so happy for every child who participated and made this event such a success.
